Learning Outcome Three: Be able to create sound assets for an interactive media product following industry practice.

Tension builds as
athletes wait for their queue, a gunshot is fired, the track runners take off

boxers battle and train one-to-one

When I started with this project, the
first practical step I took was to record and download all the sound I needed
to do, I ended up with a lot of sounds and recordings, this was very good as it
was better for me to have many different sounds and recordings to use and
choose from, the only disadvantage was that took very long to organize these
recordings so I decided to make a file
which contained different files for separate types of sounds being used in my
project.
My time management fro this project was
very precise and well thought-out, I achieved this by creating my own little
planner and deadlines for each part and task for the project. I made sure my
own deadlines were just a little more ahead of the official deadlines we had,
which allowed me to have more time to perfect my project.
Recording sound:
Recording Diary
For this project I wanted the quality of sound to be at a professional standard (High Quality), so in order to achieve this I recorded in a studio. Any of the sound effects I used where downloaded from a copyright free website so I didn't need to record anything outdoors.
My audio file sizes were very minimal in size, most of them being under 10MB excluding the soundtrack for the advert, which was 378MB in size.
Industry
practice (reflecting on finished product)
When I was first given my brief to
re-create the sound for an existing advert, I knew immediately which advert I
wanted to use for this project and how I wanted it to sound, I then though that
I should brainstorm a few more ideas to see what else I can do and how I can
create the vision I have in my head. Using Cubase I created the track from
scratch, using a MIDI keyboard, I first try to figure out a simple rhythm (with
a basic piano) I can play continuously and then built up the track by adding
other VST instruments (such as drums and violins) on top, I decided not to add
any audio effects to the soundtrack as I wanted the music to sound a natural
and as live-band like as possible. After finishing my first draft I listened to
it back and analysed what worked and what I needed to change, I then this
uploaded the improved version onto the toggle.
When creating the voice over for the
advert I struggled to sync the script in with the visuals of the sequence
accurately, it took me a few tries and altercations of the script, but I
eventually got the timing of the video and the audio description to match as
accurately as possible.
The steps to connecting Cubase to reason
to create the soundtrack
- Make sure reason is set up
- Open Cubase and reason separately
- Devices- reason rewire
- create- Dr Rex loop player
- choose track
- right click in empty space
- copy Rex loop track
Overall I fairly pleased with the outcome
of my project. The music I created was at professional standard and matches the
purpose of the advert. I encounter very few issues with the production process

Learning Outcome Two: Be able to devise sound assets for an interactive media product
The
Brief:
I received a negotiated brief
for this project (This is when two parties have different ideas from each other
but they both have to come to a decision by compromising and making sure that
both the parties are happy by the decision)
I got a brief to find
an existing television advert from YouTube, download
it and completely redo the sound for it. The sound must include:
- sound effects
- soundtrack
- narrator
- All sounds must be made or downloaded from a copyright free site.
Brainstorming
and finalizing my idea for the sound I want to make for my chosen advert:
For my interactive media product I have chosen
the video I am going to use and I am now generating ideas,
my advert
is
the ‘London Olympics 2012 official advert (full length)’, this is advert is an
animated advert that shows a number of athletes training and getting ready for
the 2012 Olympic games in London.
Script of Dialogue
Audio Storyboard
Planning
and sound material used for remaking the sound for my chosen TV advert:
Sound in interactive media, planning.
Made a folder on Music drive called Olympics 2013, to store
all the audio I need, like the narration, instruments and SFX etc. within this
folder I separated all the components I need into spate folders.
Sound Effects
Narration
Legal
and ethical considerations:
copyright is the main legal issue I must look out for. This shouldn't be too much of a problem though, because the soundtrack for the TV advert was made by myself using reason with Cubase, this also included me doing my own narration, and all my SFX sounds were downloaded from a COPYRIGHT FREE website called http://www.freesound.org/
I did not face any ethical issues with this advert , as its doesn't contain any offensive or explicit content and is suitable viewing for everyone at any age, gender, ethnicity etc.
My target audience:

My target audience:
Due to my advert, promoting the Olympics
(which is a huge major event that everyone worldwide is aware of and tunes
into) my target audience is very widespread:
Gender: Both
Age: 14 – 50+
Ethnicity: All
Social Class: A- F
